oil on wood, 9" x 12"

Daily Deviation

Given 2004-05-04

window with potted plant by ~icarus126 Light from the outside coming in like a spot light that shines directly on the focal point of the piece, intriguing, revealing a pair legs of a person resting or dying, it is unknown. The mood sets in like those of a rainy day, quiet, melodic, and relaxed. (Featured by `leodadominico)

Nice! :0 The full pic is a little too big, though. XD Great colors and I love the tapestry. ^^

Wow, the paiting in the background is amazing! This is quite an intriguing piece, certainly... makes you bring up many different questions in your mind! The legs, the bottles, the plant... how are they connected? Is there a reason we see this view? I love the light, it's perfectly real!

When I saw the small version of it, I first thought that the person whose legs are shown was dead! Poisoned or something like that - and I imagined all sorts of palace intrigues... like the ones you find in the book "The Sarantine Mosaic" or other good fantasy books (the above mentioned is very recommendable!).

The comment "oil on wood" was rather intriguing! But why not? I bet you can do oil on almost every lipophyle surface, and I like the idea...

The picture on the wall reminds me of those 18th century paintings you find on old palaces or in historical art museums. Something like the paintings of queen Elizabeth I or Napoleon. I think it's a clever idea to make a picture in a picture or rather put the actual scenery just like a sort of half-formed frame around the tapestry.

The overall oilwork and technique is very good, to splendid. ^^ (I like working with oil as well, even though I don't do it too often because the terpentine gives me a headache...).

Only minus here: the colours somehow could be a bit brighter (but I guess that's because of the wood itself, it seems to be rather dark...)

Over all: very intriguing scene (only the legs?!) but good work!

I woke up and had this strange organic object in my hand. I've never seen anything quite like this before. It opened its eye and looked and me and said: 'How about an orange?'
:iconschmitt:
fantastic..very good work!

This is really an interesting composition. I suck at using oils, but love to drool over others' work...and this is saliva worthy. Yes, that was a compliment.

On a side note, where did you get 126? Or was that just random? It would be interesting to exchange stories...

"He picked up the letter Q and hurled it into a distant privet bush where it hit a young rabbit. The rabbit hurtled off in terror and didn't stop till it was set upon and eaten by a fox which choked on one of its bones and died on the bank of a stream which subsequently washed it away.

During the following weeks Ford Prefect swallowed his pride and struck up a relationship with a girl who had been a personnel officer on Golgafrincham, and he was terribly upset when she suddenly passed away as a result of drinking water from a pool that had been polluted by the body of a dead fox. The only moral it is possible to draw from this story is that one should never throw the letter Q into a privet bush.

Very good, congratulations on the daily deviation, hopefully it will boost your hits up to where they deserve.. :D
